Maternity clothes and other things

Today, up here in garlic country, we enjoyed the comforts of a warm home, wise sages, and all the laughs that came with 3 young women giving a fashion show of newly purchased maternity clothes. These 3 women doing the wearing are definitely not pregnant, thus the reason we laughed so hard.

I didn't realize how modest and comfortable maternity clothes are until today. (I suppose this is a good thing; and, now you know I don't go trying on maternity clothes just for the fun of it.) What really baffles me is why maternity clothes are made so modest while so much else out there is not! What would people think if one was to start shopping in the maternity section for the sake of finding modest dresses and tops?

Anyway, we've had a successful shopping day, found some Chrismas presents, ate some turkey sandwichs & pie, and I am now officially allowed to play the first Christmas music. HURRAH!

The young keep us young

7 students came over to dinner tonight. It was an appreciation dinner for all the work they do with us at Torrey. Over dinner we talked about their ambitions and goals. Some want to go to law school, others simply to learn how to communicate love of Christ to rational and irrational people. Two of them found out that they spoke German and a conversation began insued. :) so funny! We laughed a lot and played Guillotine after dinner. It was such fun to have them in our home, sinking back into the couches and enjoying the comforts of a home. And anything tastes better sitting around a dinner table, instead of in the cafeteria.

Drama

When does a household of 6 ever stop having drama?? Never, it would seem. Pray for peace on the part of least two who are dealing with many questions as to what the future holds for them, relationship- and family- wise.

After a quiet and contemplative communion service friends and housemates returned to the house to enjoy antipasto as we talked of water conservation, eco-friendliness, waste management, our college days, Jews, and MK retreats.

But this evening we successfully created lots of laughter by playing "slang" speed Scrabble. This was a new invention out of the desperate desire our counterparts had to make words like "pooya" and "reefin" count for something. In the end we all had to create stories or rap songs with our slang terminology. QUITE HILARIOUS!

I'm tired and I think I feel some poetry creeping up on me. It's been lurking and waiting to pounce. I think it might finally be here, so I'm going to sit with pen in hand and let it come.

Grieving

So, I think the grieving process has gone well enough that I'm willing to return to this blog and I'll keep posting here. Though I may not be typing from Fairvilla, I will still be faithful.

We've had our share of strange things is this new place: a moth infestation, strange chewing noises under the floor, squishy caulking, open electrical wires (which the electrician last week on multiple accounts said we were a fire waiting to happen), and did I ever mention the police and gas company that came by one dark morning?

We've also had our share of fun things here: picnics, Sunday dinners, late night trips to the beach, pomegranates in abundance, the lemons and oranges are ripening, and the orchid loves it here.

With elections coming up on Tues. we are thankful for 6 brains to put together and figure out how we will excercise our freedom.

Maybe this will be helpful to you Ducky, as you are far off and can read the occasional update.
